Fr Charles Nabwana, the visionary founder of the Home of the Holy Angels, began his mission when he first caught sight of three small children huddled together on the side of the dirt road. Here is how he described it: “It was the fear in their eyes that caught my attention. The tallest, an eight year old boy named Vincent, in an act of desperation, grabbed my pant leg and said, “Please help us Father, Mama has died and there is no one left, my elder sister was taken and forced into marriage, only my two younger brothers and I are left on our own and we have nothing eat.” The pandemic HIV/AIDS had stretched its lethal fingers over these helpless and innocent children causing so much hunger and pain that my heart wrenched within me. Their plight and my priestly vows required me to stop and answer their plea for help. What could I do? My small house in Kibedi in the southern part of the District of Kibale was already filled with children such as these. Nevertheless, I said, “Follow me” and they did.
